The Human Resources for Maternal Survival: Task-Shifting to Non-Physician Clinicians Conference was jointly organised by the Federal Ministry of Health of Ethiopia, UNFPA, UNICEF and the Averting Maternal Death and Disability Program (AMDD) of the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.

The programme was organised over four full days, split into a three-day Technical Meeting followed by a one-day Ministerial Conference.  At the Technical Meeting (29 June – 01 July 2009) countries and technical experts discussed strategies for expanding use of NPCs for EmOC.  This discussion culminated in the final day at the Ministerial Conference (02 July 2009), convened by Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Minister of Health for Ethiopia.  At the Ministerial Conference, a statement was developed formalising participants’ commitment to human resources for maternal survival.  All participants from the Technical Meeting also participated in the Minsterial Conference.

The Conference was held at the UN Conference Center, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
